Jon Tatooles is co-founder and Managing Director of Sound Devices, LLC. Jon and his partners, Matt Anderson and Jim Koomar, form the nucleus of the small, agile Wisconsin-based design and manufacturing company. Their field production audio mixers and recorders are key tools for sound recordists and audio engineers in feature-film, documentary, ENG, and music recording.
Prior to starting Sound Devices, Jon held numerous positions with Shure Inc. of Niles, IL. During his nine years at Shure, Jon held a variety of sales, product, and business management positions. His first job at Shure was answering customer calls on their then-new 800 number.
A self-confessed computer geek, gear head, and frustrated musician, Jon was introduced to film as a young boy by helping his father edit 16mm films of experimental open heart surgery. He continues to be actively involved in motion picture production, still photography, and music.
He is a graduate of Northwestern University, Evanston, IL (B.S. School of Communications, 1989). In addition to his responsibilities with Sound Devices, Jon regularly speaks on audio technology and audio techniques at various organizations, including Columbia College (Chicago, IL), SBE (several chapters), and the AES (Audio Engineering Society). Jon lives in Madison, Wisconsin with his family.
